Final Fantasy XIV‘s Patch 6.4 is only one week away, which means you still have time to take care of any last-minute preparations. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure how to spend your time best preparing for The Dark Throne, here are some tips to help.

Cap Your Tomestones & Other Battle Currencies

Going into a fresh patch with a full stack of current tomestones ensures you’ll be ready to purchase gear upgrades or crafting materials right away. It’s also a good idea to cap other currencies, like Nuts and Wolf Marks, so you can hit the vendors ASAP for any new glamours, minions, and more.

Allagan Tomestones of Astronomy will be discontinued, but you’ll be able to exchange any leftover Astronomy for Causality with Auriana in Mor Dhona.

For Crafters & Gatherers: Cap Your White & Purple Scrips

You still have plenty of time to build up maximum crafter and gatherer scrips before the new patch drops. Don’t forget to do your weekly allowance of Custom Deliveries (and take advantage of any bonuses offered by specific NPCs).

If you anticipate needing to scrip grind right away, stock up on materials for your turn-in collectables (pancakes, anyone?). If you have the inventory space to spare, you might even pre-craft your turn-ins. Day one crafting and gathering can require serious hustle, so the more prepared you are, the better.

Revisit Zurvan Extreme

Has it been a while since you fought Zurvan? In preparation for the Faux Commander’s new challenge, Containment Bay Z1T9 (Unreal), it might be a good idea to jump back into Zurvan Ex to re-familiarize yourself with the mechanics. Even going as an unsynced / unrestricted party could be a valuable reminder of what’s to come – no skipping Soar required.

Finish Up Collecting Your PvP Series Malmstones & Moogle Tomes

Don’t let this season’s PvP rewards get away! Even if you’ve neglected PvP completely, you should be able to get your “/linkpearl” emote just in time. 

And don’t forget: while you can spend your tomes with the Itinerant Moogle after the Treasure Trove event is over, you’ll only be able to receive Irregular Tomestones of Mendacity until patch maintenance time.

Miscellaneous Tasks & Tips

In addition to the above, here are a few additional things to do this week to prepare for 6.4:

• Clean out your inventories, saddlebag, and Armoury Chest to make room for new gear & loot.
• Set up a “quiet” or spoiler-safe chat log tab for peace & better immersion doing MSQ (muting /yell, /shout, and any linkshells you might find distracting while engrossed in the story).
• Turn down party battle effects in Character Configuration. This is my special trick for learning new raids and extreme trials.
• If you’re a screenshot junkie, create a fresh screenshot folder for 6.4. Don’t forget to set the path in your System Settings!

While preparing is good, none of this is mandatory. The most important thing is that you have fun and enjoy the new content next week. We’ll see you there!
