Marvel's Avengers War Table Reveals Beta Details, New Hero

Today during the latest War Table stream for Marvel’s Avengers, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics revealed more details for the beta test which will begin next week.

The beta will kick off with letting players experience the A-Day mission that we had a chance to play last year. After this, new missions will open up including some missions with Kamala and Hulk as they track down J.A.R.V.I.S. and another mission that will lead to an encounter with the Abomination.

For the beta, players will be able to play as Iron Man, Kamala Khan, Hulk, and Black Widow. Holographic Augmented Reality Machine Rooms (HARM Rooms) are training simulators where players can work together to defeat groups of enemies. These can be played solo, co-op, or solo with co-op AI. Finishing these rooms will earn you a nameplate that will carry over into the full game.

The co-op AI characters that you use in your missions are more than just AI controlled partners. The game pulls in your version of these characters, which will have all the gear and upgrades that you’ve selected for them.

There will be five War Zones available in the beta. This stream also mentions that these missions can take anywhere from 10 minutes to two hours. If you don’t want to commit too much time, Drop Zones will give a group a single objective to provide a quicker in-and-out type of content.

Iron Man’s ultimate ability, the Hulkbuster, which was teased during the last War Table stream, was shown off as well. The Hulkbuster will also be available in the beta, so players will be able to to get inside and wreck havoc during their time as Iron Man.

Towards the end of the broadcast, we finally got a reveal for the first new character since the game’s announcement last summer. Hawkeye will be joining Marvel’s Avengers, largely based on the My Life as a Weapon comic. Hawkeye will have his own story mission chain that is unique from the main story.

Last but not least, those that play the beta and complete 3 HARM Room challenges will also be granted Hulk Smasher and Hulkbuster style pickaxes for Fortnite.

Marvel’s Avengers will release on September 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (Steam) and Stadia. The beta test will begin next week on August 7 for PlayStation 4.
